It is our hope that this all-star cast of heroic Catholic women will help girls see what holiness looks like for women, whether they are called to serve God in religious life or through the vocation of motherhood. God created women to be receptive, generous, sensitive, and maternal. These characteristics are written on the bodies and souls of women. However, women can only live as they were created to live if they are connected to their Creator. And we connect to our Creator through prayer.

Praying with the Saints for Girls shares the stories of 20 heroic Catholic Women. Following a brief biography, the book explores one way this heroic woman connected to God through prayer. Then, the girl reading the book is challenged to explore and possibly adopt this method of prayer. Finally, at the end of the book, girls are invited to explore an index of prayers. The full text of prayers, as well as visuals and instructions for each prayer, are included in the index. Praying with the Saints for Girls was written specifically for girls at the age of First Holy Communion.

The Saint biographies are short but engaging. Also, many of the prayers are very simple and easy for a child to learn and use. It is our hope that the saints featured here can become a young girl’s companions as she grows. We also hope that young girls add these prayers to their spiritual treasure-chests so they can return to them often as they grow and head out into the world. Prayer and a relationship with the Saints connect us to the eternal. Remind the young women in your life that they are daughters of the Most High God, and that they, like the Saints before them, were made not for this world, but for heaven.
